That’s the most appealing thing to me about running is just to get yourself in these pretty daunting situations, pull yourself up and march through it. Usually, it works pretty well as a larger metaphor for life.” Stephen Kersh joins the podcast. He might be familiar to a lot of people who follow the podcast since he's made a couple of appearances on the feed and also was one of the integral figures who helped start CITIUS MAG in 2017. This past weekend I was part of his crew at the Western States Endurance Run. It’s a 100-mile race from Squaw to Auburn in California. This was his first Western States and his first-ever 100-mile race and he did it in 15 hours, 54 minutes and 15 seconds to finish 7th overall. Heck of a debut. I was truly honored to be part of it. Major props to my fellow crew members Jeanne Mack, Paul Snyder, Tim Jeffreys, Ryan Sterner and the Kersh family. I sat down with Stephen on Sunday night to try and unpack the whole day. 0:05.8	this past weekend because on June 29th, I was able to witness a good friend of mine experience
0:11.0	that at the 2019 Western States Endurance Run. There were plenty of highs and there were
0:16.4	definitely some lows. I had never been to an ultramarathon before, so this was a really eye-opening experience
0:23.1	for me. At the front end of the race, Jim Walmsley, a good friend of the podcast, he's been on the show
0:28.2	twice now, broke his own course record and covered the distance in 14 hours, 9 minutes, and 28 seconds.
0:37.2	Jared Hazen, who was second, also got under the previous record with a 14-hour and 26-minute performance.
0:44.2	And on the women's side, three women dipped under 18 hours with Claire Gallagher running 1723 for the win.
0:51.8	It was an amazing day and really impressive.
0:54.7	It was a special day.
