Summary

It's mid July and this summer has been extremely hot. In this week's podcast, we'll discuss exertional heat illness, a group of conditions that can occur when the body's temperature regulation system is overwhelmed by exercise or exposure to high temperatures. We'll cover the three types of heat illness, the different treatments for those who show symptoms and what to do to prevent heat illness.

Because there's a heat wave taking over most of the United States and the temperatures are simply outrageous.

In fact, while we're recording this podcast, a heat warning affecting nearly 115 million Americans

are under alert from South Florida to the interior of Washington state.

In fact, certain parts of the country, like El Paso, Texas, has logged a record 27 days in a row above 100 degrees. Phoenix is destined for its 15th consecutive day above 110.

And of course, Miami has tallied a record 33 days in a row with heat indices, a measure of

how hot it feels factoring in humidity, of at least a hundred.
