The liver, supremely amazing organs, entire responsibilities to remove toxins, medications,

and all forms of bad things in our body, break them down to more excretretable products and remove them.

We've hit the liver many times in this podcast, whether we're talking about porphyria,

whether we're talking about fatty liver disease,

or whether we're even talking about alcohol abuse.

But at the end of the day, there are a lot of misconceptions about how to manage patients

of chronic liver disease.

We know that there are viral conditions, autoimmune conditions, and even congenital conditions that can affect

a person's longevity that have to do entirely with their liver.

And so I got to thinking when I was looking at our Medquest review boards, and I noticed that there are a lot of questions about abnormal LFTs, what to do for Wilson's, what to do for primary sclerosis, colonitis, what's this PBC?

They changed the name.

It's not primary biliary cirrhosis anymore,

it's now primary biliary cholangiopathy.

And it got me thinking, well, you know what we need to do?

We need to do a liver series.

And so as a hepatologist,

then someone who practices medicine,

taking care of patients, who have liver conditions,

I figured this would be perfect.
