near the South China Sea. The South China Sea is where China has fortified artificial

islands where China has declared an air defense identification zone. In addition, the last

days were told because of the visit of Tsai Ing-wen, the elected president of Taiwan,

to New York, to Central America, to Los Angeles. We're told people's Republic of China has

filled a large force of air and sea or craft in order to intimidate Taiwan for several

days ongoing. Mary, on one hand, this is business as usual, but the US and the Philippines

working together is fresh information, especially because this agreement was signed recently

after many years of enmity. Do you measure that China's exercises here are meant to be more

or less threatening than in the past? Is there some new twist here, Mary?

I don't see a twist, frankly, with these exercises, and I'm kind of surprised, actually, that Beijing
