Many of you are probably familiar with a phrase, Deus Ex Mahina.

Here's a brief explanation from Fandorf.

You know when you're watching a movie and the characters really get themselves into a

jam, and you wonder how the hell are they going to get themselves out of this mess?

And then, something like this happens.

This is referred to as a Deus Ex Mahina.

Deus Ex Mahina is a term applied to a situation where the problem seems unsolvable, yet it

is solved by an unlikely occurrence.

So in other words, lazy writing.

Deus Ex Mahina translates as God from the Machine, and it harkens back to Ancient

Greek Theater, where actors playing gods would be lowered onto the stage by cranes to resolve

conflict after playwrights had painted themselves in their corners.

In the prosecution of Frederick Freeman, the prosecution found itself painted into a similar

corner.
