No back Joe Kovic wins the French open and writes his name into the tennis record books. Andrew McCutchen reaches a career milestone of his own as the pirates are alone atop the annual central.

And a Yankees broadcaster is back in the booth after playing chicken with a baseball and losing from Wondry. I am Matt Straup and I am John Gonzalez. It's Monday June 12th and this is starting five sports stories to start your day.

We begin today's episode with tennis history on Sunday. No back Joe Kovic won the French open defeating Casper Roode in straight sets to claim his record setting 23rd Grand Slam John.

It's Joe Kovic and then everybody else now Matt. He has more singles Grand Slam than any man in history. Now it was a bit of a shaky start for Joe Kovic on Sunday, but he got going pretty quickly to win the match 76 6 3 7 5 and with that his 23rd Grand Slam puts him one ahead of Raphael Nadal who he had been tied with and three ahead of the legendary retired Roger Federer.

The dog congratulated Joe Kovic on Twitter calling his new record quote an amazing achievement and as for Joe Kovic, he was not only thrilled to win number 23, but also to do it in front of a star studded crowd mat at Roland Garros.

Here's Joker shouting out the famous football faces of two different kinds. We're on hand for this big moment.

Last but not least, I want to thank football stars for being here.

J'irou, Ibra, Mbappe, Tom Brady. I want to thank everybody for coming out and supporting. I hope you guys enjoyed. I'm sorry if I missed somebody.

But name dropping left and right Matt. Yeah. And the crazy thing is he'll have plenty of more opportunities to do so.

John McEnroe said on the broadcast that Joe Kovic might be playing the best tennis of his career right now and the guy is 36 years old.

Yeah, and I didn't realize this, but he's a shade under a year younger than Nadal who's 37.

Nadal has said he thinks next year might be his last season. So it'll be interesting to see if he can add any more Grand Slam before he retires to retake the lead.

But right now odds are, Joker, which is the favor to be the leader in that very exclusive clubhouse when he retires, which I don't think he's going to do anytime soon, Matt.

Yeah, I mean, we could be looking at tennis Tom Brady here, speaking of Tom Brady with Joker, which potentially playing into his 40s if he's up to it and stays healthy.

And then who knows how many Grand Slams he might rack up. Meanwhile, on the women's side over the weekend, Egas Chvianteck beat Carolyn and Mojoba in three sets for her third French open title and the fourth Grand Slam of her career.
