for The Guardian. Hello. Good morning. Kirstammer ripped up his schedule this morning, Kieran, and held an emergency Downing Street press conference after initially planning to spend the day talking about cost of living in Yorkshire.

I mean, this is becoming a repeat event, isn't it?

After Donald Trump threatened extra tariffs on the UK and other EU countries.

Isn't every day not spent talking about the cost of living supposed to be a wasted day?

Well, yeah.

Yeah, I think you'd like to return to topic, definitely.

But let's just give you a quick timeline of what happened over the weekend because it was a lot. So on Saturday, Donald Trump threatened a 10% tariff on eight European nations, including Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Germany, France and the UK, which would begin on the 1st of February, unless the US was allowed to purchase Greenland.

And he said the tariff would increase to as much as 25% by the 1st of June.

Now, we have heard the US President threatening tariffs before,

but this really kind of seemed to come out of nowhere.
