MPs have been debating whether Prime Minister Kier Stama should face an inquiry into whether he deliberately misled Parliament over Peter Mandelson's appointment as the ambassador to the United

States. The motion has been brought by a coalition of opposition parties and it calls the House

of Commons Privileges

Committee to lead the investigation. This is quite a big deal and could be very damaging

for Stama if it passes. After all, it was the Privileges Committee that looked into Boris Johnson

and the party gate scandal during COVID, finding that the former PM had misled the Commons, not once, but several times.

It's not a great association, is it, to be compared to Boza? The motion is being spearheaded by

Tory leader Kemi Badenok, but it's also being supported by her Lib Dem counterpart, Ed Davey,

as well as the SMP, the DUP and independent MPs.

Now, senior labour figures have called the motion a political stunt.

This was Kirstama speaking to Cathy Newman, who's just moved to Sky News, on Tuesday night.

What my political opponents are doing tomorrow is a political stunt.

Yeah, and it's a stunt that you pulled on the last Prime Minister, didn't you? It's a political stunt. And the reason they're doing it is that they don't agree with what we're doing as a government. So when we've made those big change. It's a stunt that you pulled, though, Prime Minister, isn't it? On Boris Johnson, you tabled the motion to refer him to the very same committee.

If you're so confident that your conduct is so very different to Boris Johnson, why not just let the Privileges Committee investigate, and you know you'll be proven right?
