I'm John Batchel.

The Federal Reserve Board.

Right now, the Federal Reserve Board is in the news because the President of the United

States and the hard hat walked besides the chairman of the Federal Reserve down

hallways where clearly there is major construction going on

in the complex of Federal Reserve buildings, three of them, in Washington, D.C.

That is not the story, however.

The story is something that's built over several years, and Veronique deijie is here to help me tell the story.

She's written it up for her column at Creators Syndicate.

Veronique is at the Mercatus Center for the George Mason University.

Veronique, for years, we've watched the Fed very carefully and its adjustments to the

expectation of recovery from the COVID pandemic,

and then dealing with the doubts about the economy,

every month there was going to be a new recession.

It didn't happen.

The Federal Reserve raised rates into the 5% is my memory.

And then last fall, right before the election, it started to reduce rates.

The question now is, did it reduce them enough?

Is the economy performing well?

And what has the Fed accomplished these many years?

Leaving the question of what happened when we hit 9% after the pandemic?
