President of the United States, Joe Biden, will deliver his farewell address to the nation from the Oval Office.

It is a speech marking not just the end of his four-year term as president of the United States,

but as Jen just said, a career in public service that began five decades ago when he was sworn in as the young,

the youngest possible U.S. senator of Delaware in 1973.

Just days from now, Joseph Robinette Biden will leave office as the oldest president

in the history of our union. That will hold for at least for a few more years as 78-year-old

Donald Trump takes office. On its own merits, viewed in a kind of political vacuum, the Biden

presidency was full of remarkable policy agreements. After inheriting an unprecedented pandemic, a recession

fueled by supply crisis, Biden shepherded in economic recovery that was the envy of the world.

He signed a law the most significant climate legislation in history while getting a fractious

Congress to vast bipartisan legislation that made revolutionary investments in infrastructure

and technology.

He also ran on an explicit promise to strengthen American democracy after the wreckage of Donald

Trump, but he will be handing the keys of the country over back to him in five days.

Today, after months of excruciating failure to end the war in Gaza, his administration helped

broker a ceasefire

between Israel and Hamas, a deal that includes provisions for their turn of remaining hostages
