Summary

In this episode of Picard, Patrick Stewart does some of the best acting of the show accompanied by some of the worst scenes of the show. Ogres and onions aren’t the only things that have layers anymore, join us as we try to track a couple different plot lines through multiple layers of nonsense. It’ll have you asking important questions such as, is Q a sociopath or party animal? Is Borg-Jurati getting a high off of smashing windows? If you love Star Trek, maybe this isn’t the episode for you, but if you like absurd comedy, this is right up your alley. Maybe there’s too much snakeleaf going around.  Feedback will be in a different episode so we can properly address it. And we’re wrapping up this season soon, so you better send it in at picard@baldmove.com.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to the podcast mini for the officially unofficial podcast for Star Trek Picard on Paramount Plus. I'm Jim. I'm Aaron.

0:29.8

And today we're talking about season two episode seven title monsters. Aaron, uh, before we get into the recap, there was also some big news that came up this week, but I think we need to talk about, um, it pertains to Picard season three, which I felt like that was news in and of itself, like to have a trailer for anything out this early seems crazy to me, which makes me think maybe they're filming this stuff.

0:58.8

I thought we talked about this in the podcast, but maybe it's something I just independent research was talking with someone on Twitter, but they shot season, they, they, they essentially did season two and three as a, as a package.

1:12.1

Okay, this makes sense. Yeah, kind of a Lord of the Rings type situation because, you know, Patrick Stewart's getting up in there and they did have a three episode arc or three season arc, and they want to make sure he would. So, so they, they got why they're getting good.

1:26.2

Okay, cool. Um, so the trailer that came out was basically they called it a cast announcement video. Um, then it's just like Picard, kind of sitting at a desk writing letters and we get to see or we get to hear the voices of a lot of people who apparently are going to be in season three. And then at the end of the trailer, they list them all down the screen, all their names. And I bet these are names that you're going to recognize did anybody stand out on the list of names.

1:54.8

For people in season three, the one I'm most excited for clearly a number one of the bullet gates McFadden. Oh, okay. Yeah, you catch your gates bringing bringing back the old will they won't they captain chief medical officer plot line. Uh-huh. I know. I think I think she's great. Um, she's the big glaring omission besides, but then I mean, like, didn't write below her is probably Michael Dorn.

2:23.7

Warf, Mr. and getting getting short shrifted. He's my number one on here that I wanted to see return. Oh, yeah, I think I think they did in in all good things. Like, I want to see and I know that was like your body induced stuff they were doing, but also I kind of want to see that again. That was great.

2:45.2

Yeah, I think that, uh, um, Warf's such a great character though character though. Um, both those guys are like kind of right below McFadden. Um, I saw the brakes and certice are coming back that they are right.

3:01.7

And spider. Yeah, although he's never coming back as data, but he looks like he can play an infinite.

3:08.8

Uh, uh, they, what, what do they call that on Rick and Morty as a central finite curve full of soons. Yeah, it makes me wonder who is strong in the soon clan.

3:20.6

Just another soon is who he's going to play, I guess. I mean, you can play data. Yeah, I think you could play lore. He could play lore. Maybe lore is back.

3:31.8

Maybe there's another brother disintegrated. No, I thought so too, but who knows what this show, man. Yeah, I actually, I'm surprised I don't know the exact fate of war. Um,

3:43.4

Yeah, I'm, I'm trying to think if there's anybody that we, you are the one notable one, and I'm actually kind of somewhat shocked about this is there's no Will Wheaton. Yeah, Westley is not big.

3:54.8

He's been riding this show as hard as he can. Like he's in the after show. He's like, you know, like what is he manufacturing all this enthusiasm for this stupid show, if not to get the step on the start.

4:09.8

And so did you see his reaction to it? Because he reacted kind of like, you know, he had to like, you know, obviously, I'm kind of sad that I'm going to be part of this, but on the other hand, I understand canonically, Westley's a traveler and, um, he's like,

4:23.8

and I'm just, you know, I'm really excited to still be a part of it on the after show and watching it as a fan, but he wrote a little piece of fanfic.

4:31.8

He wrote like a three or four page scene of Wesley snapping back into Picard's office as the traveler Wesley with like an adventure hook.

4:40.8

And I'm like, if Wesley came back, it would have to be as traveler Wesley, and they would have to do something really cool with it.

4:48.8

Um, I'm actually surprised because like, I don't think that's a barrier to this crew doing whatever the fuck they would want.

4:54.8

They would like probably forget that he was a traveler or just like, well, we saw him in a uniform and a movie it is a wedding. So he's not a traveler anymore.

5:02.8

And so maybe it's for the best that they leave that toy on the shelf.

5:06.8

Could be, you know, it feels like it almost feels like a snub, doesn't it? That like,
