Summary

Standing Between Faith and Fear: John 18:  Daily Devotional, Daily Bible Study In this episode, Rachael Groll shares honestly from her own journey with fear, courage, and learning to trust Jesus when obedience feels costly. She weaves together her experiences in Kenya with the story of Jesus’ arrest, Peter’s denial, and the tension-filled moments in John’s Gospel where truth confronts darkness. Rachael highlights the authority of Jesus in the middle of betrayal and uncertainty and reminds listeners that following Him will stretch us, challenge us, and ultimately reshape us. Through Scripture and personal reflection, she points to the redemptive power of God’s grace and the steady presence of Jesus for every believer who chooses to step out in faith. ☆Pick up a copy of my latest book:  Knowing God’s Voice  ☆Go Deeper and Learn to Hear God’s Voice: Knowing Jesus Course ☆Get Ad-Free Episodes, Bonus Content, and more here:  patreon.com/HearingJesus ☆To Learn More About Sponsoring a Child, check out Compassion International here: ➤  Sponsor a Child ☆Go on a trip with Rachael: Bible Study Live ☆Have a question for Rachael? If I would not have stepped out in faith, I wouldn't have been a witness. Jesus models this alignment with God's plan, even when he knows he's headed to death. Following Jesus does not exempt us from danger or betrayal. Peter denied being a follower of Jesus three times, showing human instinct to protect oneself. Self-preservation kicks in during moments of fear and pressure. Jesus knew that Peter was going to mess up, but he still chose him. Jesus is the king, not the earthly king, and his authority is evident. The choice of the crowd to demand Barabbas shows the condition of the human heart. You can allow him to defend you instead of trying to defend yourself. Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

Years ago, I was trapped in this moment between fear and faith.

0:17.3

I had been on a mission trip. We were in Kenya, and I knew that we were going to be doing

0:22.7

some work in the area of anti-trafficking, but it was my first trip. I didn't really know what that

0:27.7

meant. I didn't know what that actually looked like. I had never actually been face-to-face

0:31.8

with some of the things that I was seeing on that trip. And we were headed into the red light district of

0:38.9

Nairobi, Kenya. And in fact, there were several women on our trip with us that stayed behind

0:44.2

that were too fearful to go into this area because this is not like the tourism part of the country.

0:51.1

This is the dark part of the country, the part where people disappear, things happen,

0:56.9

the darkness of the night. And I knew that the Lord had called me to go, but I was really walking

1:03.9

and struggling with some fear. Now, the thing about faith is we step forward, despite our fear.

1:10.0

It doesn't mean we don't have fear. It just

1:11.9

means we act like we're not afraid. And for me, it was a powerful moment when I saw what God did.

1:19.0

And more on that, and I've said it in previous episodes, and if you have curiosity about that,

1:24.6

I could explain it on a later episode. But my point in all of that is that if I

1:28.9

would not have stepped out in faith, I wouldn't have been a witness to what God was doing

1:34.6

because of my fear. And there were some women there that day that missed what God was doing

1:40.3

because of their fear. Now, while it's different, as we walk into John chapter 18 today,

1:47.7

we're going to talk about something similar, and it's this tension. So at this point,

1:53.7

you know, Jesus didn't have fear, but there is this tension. He's been betrayed, he's been

1:59.1

arrested, he's been misunderstood. And yet he walks with this

2:03.9

calm purpose and he completely trusts the father. And so that idea of that faith, that's what I want to
