I'm blessed to be praying with the spiritual mentoring team that one week from now will be training

80 people from all over the country to be spiritual mentors.

This is a very special group of people, lay people,

who've committed themselves to a deep life of prayer,

the pursuit of holiness,

and to help others grow in prayer and holiness.

Very special group.

But they shouldn't be unique because everyone is called to a deep life of prayer

and to help others to holiness. So God bless you all for what you're doing, and you are the

example to others. So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and example to others.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Today is a feast of St. Josephine Bakita.

Born in 1869 in Darfur Sudan, she was kidnapped when she was nine years old by Muslim slave traders

and forced to walk 600 miles barefoot.

She was then sold five times in the slave markets of Sudan.

Every day she was whipped until she bled.

Finally, in 1862, Akita was bought by an Italian merchant who returned to Venice, taking

her with him.
