With great responsibility, and since it's that time of year where Spider-Man no way home is coming out and his identity revealed,

I figured it's time to do a little reveal of our own.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm the Catzon Paul, your host of the Med Geek's podcast.

And this week, in honor of the fact that we're getting our third episode

with Tom Holland in Spider-Man. I thought it would be great to talk about

Spider-Bites. That's right, those little creatures can bite you. Now the fact is, all of the ones we know that are medically relevant

won't give you superpowers but it can cause your patients some issues.

So let's go ahead, sit back, relax, and talk about those eight-legged creatures and find out how you

can help your patients if they're bitten by one of them. They're on about 45,000 spiders worldwide and spiders themselves belong to a group of arthropods.

They're arachnids. they have four pairs of legs, or eight of them.

And we know that when people think of spiders,

they conjure up images of tarantulas and wolf spiders and fearsome creatures.

But spider bites themselves are actually a very rare medical event.

In fact, they usually only occur a handful of times, and the venom of most

spiders actually don't have too much effect. In addition, only a few species have the fangs powerful enough to penetrate human skin.

And of these spiders, those only bite humans in rare and extreme circumstances.

Therefore, most spiders don't pose a threat to humans.

So why do we have such a big fear of them?

Well, part of it is the fact that they're a bit scary looking.

They kind of always look angry, they've got

resting spider face, and more importantly, it is the comedy horror movie from 1990 called

arachnophobia, in which a small town in California gets invaded by aggressive and dangerous spiders.
