need to be aware of the the risk factors, what's currently the methodology for

screening, different screening modalities, so that way you're sort of up to date with the new recommendations. Right off the bat what we know is the fact is that screening for

cholorectal cancer reduces mortality by detecting cancer early that way treatments more effective and it removes these

polyps, these abnormal growth. In fact, 76% of cholorectal cancer deaths

occurred in people who are not up to date with screening.

Now I know a lot of you out there are like, yeah, I believe in it, I believe in it, but let's go

over some numbers anyway.

Number one, cholorectal cancer is the third most commonly

diagnosed cancer in males and second in females. And how are we doing

nationally? Well, in the United States, our incidents of colorectal cancer has been declining by about 2% per year.

If you then go ahead and look at the Seer Epidemiology and end results database, the Seer database,

colorecto cancer incidents is actually increasing in the underage 50 group. This is part of why you'll notice a lot of

recommendations have changed recently. Under the age of 50 you might be

wondering that's why it's now 45 in the United States it's increased at a

rate of 2% per year from 1995 to 2016 and there's a rising incidence of

colorectal cancer even among young adults aged 20 to 39.

But again, that still doesn't mean that the number of cases in these younger groups

is more than adults aged 50 or over, the numbers there are still higher.
