1:03.6 | the false sense of security, which occurs when our fears have abated but risk remains. |
1:09.7 | In other words, like why sometimes feeling safe is the |
1:13.0 | most dangerous thing we do, because when our vigilance goes down, our risk has a tendency to go up. |
1:21.2 | And when that happens, that is when we are most susceptible to falling into the pitfalls of danger. |
1:29.1 | I say that we often prepare for events that are not very likely to happen, |
1:35.3 | like mass shootings, but we underprepare for things that may be more likely to happen, |

1:47.4 | Because no one fears that which they know well. We, you know, I always have people come up to me and they're like, listen, you know, is this book |
1:54.2 | like about fearmongery? I don't want to live my life in fear. I just want to, you know, go about my day. |

2:01.9 | But, you know, there's nothing wrong with just a little bit of, just a little, all most of us really need to succeed in staying safe is a healthy sense of skepticism and a moderate dose of vigilance. |
