With that, for the benefit of our online church I'd like to say aloha and welcome to Calvary Chapel Kani'oi in our Thursday midweek service.

Tonight we'll be in the book of 1st Peter. So let's turn in our Bibles to 1 Peter chapter 1. We're going to be in verses 1 and 2.

But before we start, let's pray. Father, we just come before your throne and we lift up this message tonight, Lord.

We thank you, Lord, that your Holy Spirit is here with us. We're two or more gathered. You're in our miss. and so we come before you to give you praise, Lord, for what you're going to do here in this

place tonight, Lord. We love you, we worship you. We ask that you will bless your word now.

And we pray these things in Jesus' name. Amen. I've titled this message tonight. Know that you are chosen. Peter was one of the 12

apostles. He had been with Jesus during his first three years of his ministry here on earth.

Peter, he was a born leader. He actually became a leader. He actually became the leader of the disciples.

He wasn't self-appointed, but he was Holy Spirit appointed. Peter in the flesh was capable of pushing his way to the top and becoming Jesus' right-hand man.

But events in Peter's life and his walk with the Lord humbled him,

taking his eyes off Jesus and then sinking as he's trying to walk on water,

being rebuked for not letting Jesus wash his feet, and then a rooster crowing three times

after Peter proclaimed he would never

desert Jesus. Although Peter was not an educated man, he was not ignorant. He was a

fisherman by trade and as a fisherman he wore two hats. He was a businessman as well.

I sense that he was a man with a sharp mind and he was also a man with a sharp intellect.

Peter was led to Jesus by his brother Andrew.

We read in John, chapter 1, verse 42,

Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said,

Your name is Simon, son of John, but you will be called Cephas, which means Peter.

The name Cephas is from the Aramaic and Peter from the Greek.

Both of these names mean rock.
