A stunning rebuke against the President of the United States. The former defense secretary, General James Mattis, picked by the president

himself to lead the Pentagon, issued this statement just a short time ago. I'll quote from it now.

Donald Trump, says General Mattis, is the first president in my lifetime who does not try

to unite the American people, does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us. We are

witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences

of three years without mature leadership, says the general. We can unite without him, drawing on the

strengths inherent in our civil society. We bring in now Mike Santoli and CNBC contributor Ron Insana to react to all of this.

Mike, we are not a political program. Everybody knows that.

But we do understand the intersection of politics and Wall Street, and everybody knows that as well.

And that's what we're going to look at tonight, because this Mike is a stock market that has rallied so far from the lows.

It has looked past the coronavirus.

It has looked past the civil unrest in our cities.

It has not entertained in any way, shape, or form to this point, the election and the re-election prospects of Donald Trump.

And I wonder at what point does that change?

It's very difficult to say, Scott, as you suggest, I think the threshold is pretty high for political

policy issues, social unrest, a lot of the things in the air to really penetrate the day-to-day

of what the market
