When I kind of almost accidentally bumped into what looked to me like a new genre that New Hollywood was fast inventing,

it struck me as a really interesting opportunity to start to think seriously about what it means for a whole new genre to appear and begin to name itself in that way.

I first noticed it really on the sleeves of VHS videos in video stores and in trade press reviews.

To me, I think the term became most real through those cheaper end straight to video films.

I think the first time I heard the term, erotic thriller, was probably when I auditioned for undercover.

When my agent said, Erotic Thriller, and I said, well, what is that?

Well, you know, like nine and a half weeks.

Not a fan of the phrase, erotic thriller.
