Summary

So many of us are feeling angry for a myriad of reasons amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. To help us better understand and work with our anger, Eric reached out to several previous guests of the show to ask them if they would be willing to talk with him for a special edition of The One You Feed Podcast about anger. They all generously agreed at a moment’s notice and this episode featuring 4 “mini-interviews” is the result. These are all new conversations with previous guests, Rick Hanson, Hilary Jacobs Hendel, Ruth King, and David Richo. You can find all of the most up to date crisis help & support resources that Eric is making available through The One You Feed by going to www.oneyoufeed.net/help In This Episode, We discuss How to Work with Anger and… That anger is a natural and normal response Utilizing anger rather than letting anger utilize us How anger can feel good in the moment but it corrodes over time Finding peace when confronted with the truth of uncertainty Mindfully noticing and naming our anger Anger being triggered by perceived danger and it readies us for a fight The danger of blocking our anger That we feel anger as energy that wants to get out Using fantasy to release the energy of anger  When calm, making a list of “state-changers” for yourself Noticing our coping strategies in the face of things we can’t control The critical choice of what to do with the energy of anger Being informed by our anger instead of reacting out of it Channeling the energy in constructive ways rather than damaging ways Getting curious about what the anger is trying to tell us – rather than focusing on what it’s saying about other people Getting fiercely clear about rather than ablaze in the fire of our anger When we’re in the anger, we lose touch with how it’s impacting our bodies Setting the intention of doing no harm  That fear is often underneath anger Not acting out of anger because it can be abusive Links to Other Episodes: Rick Hanson Hilary Jacobs Hendel Ruth King David Richo See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Hello, everyone. I hope that you are staying safe and sane in these very challenging times.

0:07.8

This episode is a special episode and I put it together because I was hearing from a lot of people

0:13.2

and feeling it in myself, anger about the way things are going with this whole situation. So hearing

0:20.0

from a lot of healthcare workers, I've started doing one-on-one free work with healthcare workers,

0:24.4

more to come about that in a minute, hearing from them, hearing from other people,

0:29.3

feeling it in myself, and this anger that either the government's not handling this well, or

0:33.6

institutions aren't handling it well, or individuals aren't handling it well, they aren't taking it

0:38.5

seriously, and it's bringing up a lot of anger collectively. And so I thought it would be a good idea

0:44.4

to have an episode where I got some previous guests back together to talk about how do we deal with

0:50.2

anger skillfully? How do we deal with it in a way that doesn't promote more harm, but allows us to

0:57.4

use that anger in positive ways? So I reached out to several guests at the beginning of the week and

1:02.7

they were very wonderful and responding very quickly and we were able to turn this around in just

1:08.4

a few days and get it to you. So I'm very grateful to them, grateful to Chris for the quick editing,

1:13.5

and I hope that this episode is helpful to you. And I also want to give a brief reminder of some of

1:19.6

the things that we at the One You Feed are doing to try and be of support during this time,

1:24.3

and you can get details on all these things at OneYouFeed.net-help. First, we are doing free weekly

1:32.4

group coaching calls on Wednesdays at noon. We had our first one this last Wednesday and it was

1:37.9

wonderful, and I will do it again for the next several weeks. Details, as I said on how to join that,

1:43.3

are at OneYouFeed.net-help. Secondly, I am doing free coaching sessions for healthcare workers.

1:51.2

There's only a few spots remaining I've gotten a pretty overwhelmed in response to that and I'm

1:55.3

working with a lot of people, but there are still some opportunities. So free coaching sessions for

2:00.5

healthcare workers, and then also I am giving discounts and offering payment plans on all of the
