We recap and contextualise what was the green scare.

I think you can argue it never really ended, but in the context of what we're kind of talking

about, what was specifically the green scare as it's known?

Green scare refers to a period of time when the federal government, especially in America, focused on

environmental and animal rights activists as a sort of primary target. This is post-9-11, so there

were a lot of policy changes that really enabled federal agencies like the FBI to do things they

hadn't been able to do so easily or so legally in a number of years.

And so there was a lot of funding coming into anti-terrorism and not really a lot of actual

terrorists out there to chase so they chased

these radical environmentalists and radical environment animal rights activists I would say

this was really the kind of first knock-on domestic knock-on that we saw beyond the kind of

radical solophists there's solism, Al-Qaeda-affiliated ideologies in the United States,

right, post-Patriot Act. I mean, right after September 11th, there was this incredibly

pervasive pressure on groups that were deemed to be dissenting or off the mainstream or

whatnot to kind of get in line and, you know, basically rat themselves in the flag. I mean,

wasn't there in October 2001, and October 2001, there was a congressman who sent a letter to dozens of mainstream

environmental organizations demanding that they denounce the ALF and ELF, the Earth Liberation

Front and Animal Liberation Front as equivalent threats to Al-Qaeda. Right? I mean, this was a
