I am Karen Hunter.

And today's question is to spank or not to spank.

That is the question.

Well, I'm very clear about it today, but I wasn't always clear. I had to be

changed with information. I had to be changed by information, by data, and by the brilliance

of Dr. Stacey Patton. So I want to share with you an interview that we did years ago

when her book came out, Spare the Kid, and it really did change my

view on corporal punishment of our children. Take a listen. I took an impromptu poll yesterday

because I knew this guest was coming in. I've not come full circle, but I've softened my position.

And I realized yesterday when we did a poll, because we have a very diverse group of people working with the show,

that culturally, it's not even generational because the millennial,

who is black, has had a beaten before, a spanking.

But none of the white kids in the studio,

not a single one have ever been spanked.

And I said, wait a minute, there's something going on here.

Is this cultural? Is it generational? Or is this something else? Is this the remnants of slavery?

I don't know. We're going to have this discussion because I know this woman did her research,

because she's been on this crusade for a minute. We've actually known each other for quite a while,

and you've been talking about this for damn near a decade now

and now there's a book that comes out today which we're going to tweet out so get on Twitter

it's called spare the kids while whooping children won't save black America it's just out today
