Bob I see space X I smile I see FAA I lose my smile what's happened good evening to good evening John over the weekend there was space X finally launched two astronauts to I assess with the

Dragon capsule freedom on a Falcon 9 rocket those astronauts have the

capsules now dock with I assess and those astronauts are now on board that capsule will bring the two starliner astronauts plus it's two astronauts back to Earth in February

And that was all the success.

That launch itself was significant in that it set a new record

for American launches in a single year,

exceeding the 110 launches that the U.S. achieved last year and in fact the

pace the country is going mostly by SpaceX but not entirely we can conceivably double the record of 70 that

was said in 1966 and it lasted in 22 so in the last few years the United States

but because of private enterprise, has boomed in terms of its rocketry and that's pretty exciting.

But this particular launch had other aspects that turned out to be of significance, John, and unfortunate

significance.

Astronauts are delivered safely, the capsule delivered safely.

After the capsule separated from the upper stage of the Falcon on rocket SpaceX has a

procedure to use that the engine of that upper stage to de-orbit the upper stage over

the ocean and out of the way and they set target zones where they

want to bring it down. When they fired the engine something happened and that first day, that upper state, I'm sorry, did not land in the targeted zone in the Pacific.

It landed in the ocean, burned up, but so no danger to anybody no public safety there was not

off-cost by gigantic amounts just outside the target zone so SpaceX

SpaceX immediately announced SpaceX announced this over the weekend

that it is pausing its warrances

until it understands exactly why that second stage
