There is something I find so profoundly beautiful with the lonely spaceman, whether it's

Jury Gargarin or if it's David Bowie's Major Tom, you know, this kind of the idea of that

person floating around outside of our world and the planet just keeps on doing whatever

it's doing completely irregardless of the fact that one, it really

points out to our own insignificance, doesn't it?

I'm Hello and welcome back to the director's cut, brought to by the Directors Guild of America.

In this episode, a lone astronaut grows concerned about the life he left behind on Earth, and director Johann Ranks' sci-fi drama, Spaceman. The film tells the story of Jacob, an astronaut on a

solo mission at the edge of the solar system. Increasingly concerned with the life he left behind,

he sets out to fix his marriage with the help of a mysterious, timeless creature living

in the bowels of his ship.

In addition to Spaceman, Ranks' other directorial credits include the feature film downloading

Nancy, and episodes of Bloodline, Halt and Catch Fire, Bates Motel, Vikings, Breaking Bad,

and The Walking Dead.

He won the 2019 DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television and Limited Series, for his miniseries, Chernobyl.

Following a screening of the film at the DGA Theater in New York, Rank spoke with director Crystal Moselle about filming Spaceman.
