Southwest Airlines President Bob Jordan described the holiday season of 2022 as, quote,

some of the most challenging days in our company's history. Uh-huh, that may be understatement.

You may recall that due to weather and logistical issues, Southwest canceled more than 16,000 flights

during the busiest travel season of the year. Hundreds of thousands of passengers

were left stranded, some without bags, some for days. And in the weeks that followed,

Southwest has been trying to clean up its mess with varying degrees of success. First, let's get to

the bottom of what exactly happened, and to do that, we have to go back.

Way back. Since the airline came on the scene in the late 60s, Southwest has tried to brand itself as different from the rest.

More laid back than your standard airline, less stuffy, more fun, less expensive.

And while some of those differences went over well with consumers, like flight attendants prone to break into song.
