Southern Highways

It's early.

We left town before sunrise.

I've got a long way to go, and my wife is driving.

My coon-hounde Ilemy rides in the back seat.

On long trips, my wife always drives.

She's a natural leader.

She could make room-tem room temperature honey walk in a

single file line. But it works out because I am a natural sleeper. In the back seat, Ellie chews on an

empty plastic peanut butter jar. It's the only thing she'll chew in earnest. She doesn't like

bones. She won't touch toys, but she will do peanut butter jars.

I don't often use the word beautiful. It's an overdone word. But if I did, I'd use it on my dog.

She is quite beautiful. We drive past Paxton, Florella, Lockhart,

"'towns about the size of walking closets.
