Unfictional is a program of stories and original documentaries from KCRW's independent producer project.

Will lost his father when he was seven years old.

He was left with just some photographs and a few audio tapes.

He knew simply that his father had died in a commercial plane crash in 1977,

but knowing any more details than that was just too painful for Will.

It took 35 years until he was ready to look more in depth at the crash that took his father.

It's an event still memorialized in New Hope, Georgia, where the plane fell right into the middle of town.

A warning that this program contains some harrowing and disturbing descriptions of a plane crash,

so it's not suitable for children to hear.

my father home. Last summer my flight from Raleigh, North Carolina was cancelled because of thunderstorms.

While I waited for a new flight, I spoke to another passenger faith Thomas about the delay.

It gives me assurance to know that they're looking after our safety.

And you were saying you don't like flying, why not?

I don't like heights.

I don't like heights at all at all it's not that nothing with the airplane

and personal I just don't like to be a that far up in the air period so

I don't like to fly, but I have no choice

to go home to my country.

That's the only route.
