This is CBS, I In The World, I'm John Bachelor.

The bricks, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa,

meeting in week's time, August 22nd, to discuss not only trade and development

in the global south, but also, of course, the war in Ukraine and the challenge to

bricks into the future. There are states circling around that would very much

favor an invitation to bricks, the least among them right now is South Africa.

That state is a member and at the same time has its own needs as it gathers together the leaders

of the giants that would be Russian, India, and China, and Brazil. I go to Ronan Wordsworth

of Geopolitical Futures. He's in Europe, observing situation in Africa.

And the first question I ask is a simple cynical one. What's in it for South Africa,

this bricks meeting? Ronan, a very good day to you. What does South Africa hope to achieve

hosting this gathering of war eagles? Good evening to you.

Thanks very much, John. Yes, for South Africa, they say bricks is a very important

political platform for them. Now, obviously, as you say, the other four countries are much bigger

economically, and South Africa is very much the junior member. But when you look at the position

of bricks and being able to host a meeting like this, it elevates their status on the world

on the world stage. And again, as part of this, I think that they believe that it can open up

opportunities both for increased trade, maybe some investment coming into South Africa,
