Summary

Lorena Savvedra Smith talks about something most of us feel but can’t name: soul dislocation. That spiraling, fragmented feeling after a hard conversation. The numbness when the world feels like too much. Her ancestors had a name for it, and a way back. In this conversation, we explore why our rush to “heal” with ancient practices might be causing more harm, and how true healing asks us to stop running from nature’s power—and run toward it.

In Western cultures, we've become so separate. We've become separate from ourselves.

0:05.9

And one of the things we've become most separate from is nature. You are not separate from nature.

0:13.5

You are nature. We've been sold on the idea that healing means going outside, forest bathing, sunrise walks, and plant medicine retreats.

0:24.3

And there may be some truth to that. But we've only been getting part of the story.

0:30.3

Because nature isn't just the soft, gentle grandmother we've romanticized. It is also the ferocious wind that takes everything in its path.

0:41.9

And until we stop running from that power, we're not actually healing.

0:47.4

We're just borrowing peace we haven't earned.

She has something to say about our rush to ancient practices,

the Palo Santo, the ceremonies, the shamanic healers.

1:41.7

That rush to heal, she says, might actually be causing harm.

1:47.4

And with that, I bring you this week's episode of life, death, and the space between. We need at our table of awareness, the logician, but equally we need the intuitive,

1:53.9

we need the mystic. I was died. I was allowed to go to the very precipice of death, of life and

death, and look over the edge.

And I was allowed to behold what was there and allowed to come back.
