Hi, this is Josh Marshall and this is the Josh Marshall podcast featuring Kate Riga.

We had the State of the Union last night, as I'm sure all of you are aware, our regular

schedule is. We're recording this just afternoon on Wednesday, so the morning after.

And I'm kind of curious how many listeners to the podcast

watched the State of the Union because I've actually seen a number of roundups, you know,

kind of articles reacting to the State of the Union where the person says they didn't watch it.

The reason I say that is that I think partly because of Trump,

partly because of what Trump has done to the state of the union. And I think Kate actually

said something like this in the last podcast. Like all of the trappings of it are gone. And

that didn't necessarily start with Trump. And that gets to something that, as I think about it, is almost one of my biggest takeaways

now.

And that is that Trump really got bummed out over the course of two hours about the

Democrats not standing or applauding

or cheering for him.

And I keyed into that.

I mean, it took him about an hour to start getting upset, right?

And then he got more upset as it went.

And what was striking to me is that, I mean, dude, we've been doing this for a year.

People are upset. You know the Democrats don't like you, right? You know that. You know that a lot of them

were going to boycott. They're going to sit on their hands, all this kind of stuff. You know that.

It's not a surprise. And you are leaning into the fight.

So how is that getting to you? How is that getting to you? Because it did get to him.
