Okay, welcome to the Other People podcast. I'm Brad Listy. I'm your host. It is Sunday. There's a Sunday episode this week. There's something happening here on The Other People Show. I'm very excited about it. I am launching today a brand new series on the podcast. It's a bit of an experiment,

0:26.8

and it is something that I have wanted to do on this show for a long time, and I finally got it together.

0:34.1

I'm finally doing it. The series is called character studies. And in this new series,

0:41.3

which I think is going to be happening on Sundays, maybe not every Sunday, but on Sundays,

0:47.0

there will be character study episodes in which I will be interviewing civilians,

0:53.6

which is to say, these are not authors, these are not

0:57.5

journalists, these are not media figures of any kind, these are people who have nothing to

1:03.3

promote, and they are appearing on this program anonymously. I'm interested in just talking to people who don't have any kind of agenda other than to share

1:18.6

their stories, and I think that it's useful to hear these stories.

1:22.6

If you're a writer and you're listening to this show, these episodes might provide insight

1:27.3

into the hearts and

1:28.8

minds and lives of people to whom you would otherwise not have access. And, you know, if I'm thinking

1:36.7

about the origins of this show and the name of this show, you know, it's called the Other People

1:41.8

podcast, which is a bit of an odd name choice and in the

1:48.2

beginning i didn't think too much about it i was just like oh i'm going to be talking to other people

1:53.1

but i think if i go back even further i remember making a joke about wanting to start a magazine

1:59.9

called other people magazine as opposed to People magazine.

2:05.7

This is years ago.

2:07.9

And I wanted to, uh, the joke was that it would just be about people who would normally never show up in a magazine for any reason.

2:15.2

And this is kind of the realization of that vision, you know, albeit in a

2:21.0

different media, or medium, I should say, but I'm very excited about it. And so far I have conducted

2:31.0

several of these interviews, and they have exceeded my expectations.
