Scripture text for this evening's message is Psalm 1.

Psalm 1.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the council of the wicked, nor stands in the way

of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers. But his delight is in the law of the

Lord and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that

yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like

the chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Before I pray and seek the Lord's help while I have the whole church in front of me, including those

at the other campuses.

I want to thank you for your prayer and support during the last four weeks on the writing leave.

I don't take for granted that the elders give me that gift.

It is gracious and I receive it as an undeserved benefit.

And thank you for your prayers and for supporting the church while I'm away, but it's good to be back.

Let's pray.

Father in heaven, what do we have that we did not receive?

And if we received it as a gift, why do we boast as though it were not a gift?

So humble us before your word and make us docile and teachable, soft, tender,

touchable by the word of God. Help me to be faithful to it, and may it take its
