| 0:00.0 | We're starting in my home office. Today I'm going to recreate the very first episode of |
| 0:05.9 | Walking is Fitness as I have a very big announcement. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking as Fitness, |
| 0:13.2 | a daily 10-minute podcast that helps provide you a little added motivation to get out the door and take the walk. |
| 0:24.3 | Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. |
| 0:32.6 | This spot right here, this is where the very first episode of walking his fitness began a few |
| 0:39.8 | days earlier I had started here with my iPhone and my stopwatch and wanted to see |
| 0:47.5 | how far I got walking 10 minutes picked out a landmark and determined well that's |
| 0:52.8 | where I need to walk to every |
| 0:54.6 | day as I record the episode and did that for the entire first year and then I decided |
| 1:01.0 | you know what I'm gonna change it up so I needed a stopwatch but this route that |
| 1:06.8 | I'm walking now this is the same way that I went on that very first episode of |
| 1:12.0 | walking his fitness and probably every episode for maybe the first year. So let's |
| 1:19.3 | talk about 10 minutes, this podcast being 10 minutes. There are two reasons for that, two |
| 1:24.6 | primary reasons. Number one, I wanted to do a daily podcast to encourage |
| 1:31.3 | and motivate you and others to create a walking habit and to stick with it. To me, 10 minutes |
| 1:39.2 | felt sustainable, just like exercise. When you make the decision, okay, I'm going to do it. Lots of excitement and you're ready to conquer the world. I know how that rolls with me. So I thought, okay, I'm excited now. What does this look like in six months? What does this look like in a year? What is sustainable even after these initial excited feelings have dissipated somewhat? |
| 2:06.0 | And 10 minutes felt right. |
| 2:08.5 | But even more importantly, one of my core convictions when it comes to fitness and walking |
| 2:14.7 | as a fitness activity, one of my core convictions is start small. |
| 2:18.3 | Don't start with 10,000 steps a day. |
| 2:21.3 | Don't start with a daily 30-minute walk. |
| 2:24.3 | Again, the excitement can carry you for a little ways, |
