Summary

There are over 1000 cold case files in police stations across the UK, but when Avon and Somerset police reviewed the oldest cold case in the country last year, little did they know they'd soon know the identity of the killer... and he was still alive.

In this episode, I am joined by ITV news journalist and presenter Robert Murphy, who followed the investigation and ended up in court, staring into the eyes of killer.

This is Real.

There are around a thousand unsolved murders in the UK. But a few weeks ago, in June 2025, something happened that broke a record

in British history. A murder was finally solved, 57 years after it happened. I'm Naomi Channel,

I've covered crime in the west of England now for about 20 years.

And I've got a particular interest in cold cases. And I knew there were in the

Avon-Somerset area about 30 cold cases dating back to the 1940s. And I thought I knew most of them.

You might recognise this voice. This is Robert Murphy. He's a broadcast journalist and TV presenter for ITV. He's appeared on

real before and when he emailed me a few weeks ago with the details of a case he was covering,

2:11.1

my mind was blown. Robert has been reporting on a case that dates back to 1967, but the case was finally concluded just last month in June 2025, and the culprit was caught.

And I had a call late last year, November time, saying, look, we're making an arrest today. Get your stuff ready for news.

I said, what's the case? And they said, Louise had done. I'd never heard of Louisa Dunn. It was one of

2:43.5

those cases that had just been under the radar. We've got some really well-known cases of big unsolved

2:49.4

murders. And this was just one that I had to read

2:54.4

up on. And when you start reading about the facts, you just think, wow, why haven't I heard

3:01.5

of this case? And B, there was nothing on the internet about it, really. There was a podcast that had been made not that much longer before.

3:13.7

But it was just there were hardly any newspaper articles.
