going to be me on the podcast for a little bit. We've had a couple guests on I

figured why not bring it back to the Classic Epic Gardening podcast where we take some questions from

readers and just talk gardening with you guys. So today it's going to be a

question for my good friend Phil Koster, been a feature on the podcast a

couple times,

asked some wonderful questions.

So here's this question today.

You've talked about the importance of testing

in some ways to test, and he's talking about soil testing here.

But when is one test type more appropriate than the others,

say between sending samples to a lab,

an average home test kit,

or an inexpensive multifunction electric meter.

And so I don't have the end-all-be-all answer here, but I can tell you how I would think about

it.

So here is the way I think about it.

If you're going to be starting like I did this year a new

raised bed garden or a new area of your property to start growing it. Let's say you

are going to start gardening for the first time and you don't really know anything
