I want to do a deep dive into a new book that I find absolutely fascinating.

Craig Unger is the author of five books on the Republican War on Democracy, his latest

is American Compromot, he's a vanity fair contributor for the past 15 years, his Twitter

handle is Craig Unger, C-R-A-I-G-U-N-G-E-R, the book is absolutely extraordinary.

Craig, welcome back to the program, it's been a while since we've talked.

Thanks for having me, Tom.

It's absolutely my pleasure.

I've had people call into this program and echo a question that has occurred to me

on more than one occasion.

For the last four years, we had a president who dismantled large parts of the American

government, who tried to put totes into the American justice system, who would overlook

the crimes of foreign dictators and not just any one country, multiple foreign dictators,

including, for example, Saudi Arabia covering up the Khashoggi murder stuff like that.

In fact, Jared Kushner said, we've got this under control, who pursued a policy with

regard to a pandemic against medical advice, against the advice of wise advisors, that

has caused now America to have the worst case of COVID in the world.

We are 4% of the world's population, we have 20% of the world's deaths and cases.

People call in and they say, is he doing this because he's stupid?

Is he doing this because he's incompetent?

Is he doing it just because some American billionaires want this kind of thing?
