I can see these very obvious logical errors in their thinking when they both design an experiment and interpret the results of it.

That literally, like, in undergrad, I learned how to think through this problem, but they don't have that

training, right?

That's one of the problems with self-experimentation.

Simple things done savagely well.

It's this idea that you find these five things that matter.

And everything else might matter a tiny bit, but these are things that really matter.

And then you just do them always. And it's hard. Even that's hard. But you just do them always.
