0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to another episode of Sigma Nutrition Radio. |
0:17.5 | My name is Danny Lennon and you are very welcome to the podcast or welcome back to |
0:22.2 | the podcast if you are a regular listener. And today we've got an episode that I think you're going |
0:27.7 | to enjoy. This is in the form of what was billed as a debate, but as I'll explain in a moment, |
0:33.6 | perhaps is maybe not the best word for it. But a while back I had the absolute pleasure of speaking at the Ultimate Evidence-Based |
0:40.9 | Conference in Melbourne, Australia. |
0:43.5 | And on the second day of that event, I took part in what was billed as a debate with |
0:49.3 | Jackson Pios, who you may remember has been on the podcast before. |
0:53.8 | And this debate of sorts was on the topic of whether intuitive eating can be a tool for those with performance goals or fitness goals or physique goals. |
1:03.9 | And specifically, if I recall correctly, the phrasing was, intuitive eating can be a recommended eating approach for those with |
1:12.9 | fitness and or physique goals. And as I mentioned, in reality, the goal of this session was more |

1:29.3 | that motion. And so it was my job and my position to represent that intuitive eating is a viable |
1:37.6 | strategy, even for those that have some degree of fitness goals. But as you will hopefully |
1:43.7 | pick up on when listening to the debate, |
1:46.2 | most of my position was based on the premise of understanding what intuitive eating actually is, |
1:52.1 | i.e. that it is not a diet, rather it is a framework that can impart some particular benefits, |
1:58.7 | which we will discuss, and that's the way it should be framed. |
2:02.4 | And so oftentimes, particularly in the fitness industry, you see misunderstandings of this term |
2:07.8 | or people misusing this term, and that creates a lot of confusion. |
2:12.2 | And I think, again, as you will likely pick up on in the discussion, Jackson presents several really valid |
2:19.3 | points that I don't actually disagree with. And Jackson is a sensible, sane voice in the fitness |
