He is the small business columnist for the Guardian newspaper, UK and US edition, the Philadelphia

Inquire and other distinguished publications. And I have learned over the years to pay very close attention to small

businesses because they hear quickly that things are going south very

quickly. I can even say eight to nine months a better tool

than the market can be because they can't take risk with carrying too much

inventory or having too many employees if things are going to get rough.

Small businesses put the check they write to themselves, the CEO, they put it in the drawer

in hard times. So as of now, Gene, there's a report that there's signs

of a recession. What does it look like?

Well, it's all about hiring and small businesses themselves

are are slowing back their they're cutting back on their hiring this is a report

from the national federation of independent businesses

uh... that that reported they do a monthly survey which they've been doing for about 50 years now and they are reporting that the people that they survey their members are cutting back on on hiring their less jobs that are available. We've seen this in open jobs.

Open jobs are now like 8 million. They used to be like close to 12 million. I mean, it's been a big drop.

In addition to that, wages themselves are slowing. There's across the board and as reported by

both paychecks and ADP the two big payroll on HR firms out there.

Both their measures they're seeing a leveling out even a slowing of wages and wage increases that are being

you paid as well and then you know you look at things like the Philadelphia Federal

Reserve they're looking at you looking at whether people are changing jobs as well.

And this reshuffling of the job market is now going away.
