I'm John Baffer with my good colleague, Gene Marks, the small business columnist for the Guardian

0:05.2

newspaper and the Philadelphia Inquirer. Philadelphia is looking at minimum wage of $15 an hour.

0:12.5

Now, Gene, we've had mixed reports for quite some time about whether that minimum wage

0:18.0

means people lose their jobs or their fewer jobs or their offsets. What is the general

0:25.9

opinion before Philadelphia tries it? Most of the businesses I've talked to, my clients that have

0:32.5

hourly workers, I cannot find a client that pays less than $15 an hour, John.

0:37.8

I really can't.

0:39.0

Even the clients I know they're in the restaurant business,

0:41.2

you know, there's a minimum wage of like $3.65 in Pennsylvania,

1:26.0

I think their minimum wage is still below $15 an hour. I haven't checked it recently.

1:27.7

But, you know, okay, maybe that would have an impact. But I have to tell you, John, the $15 an hour. I haven't checked it recently, but you know, okay, maybe that would have an impact.

1:29.5

But I have to tell you, John, the $15 an hour

1:32.1

rage, because it's been knocked around for so many years

1:34.7

across so many different states,

1:36.4

I mean, so many states have well exceeded $15 an hour

1:38.7

that I, you know, to be competitive,

1:41.4

most businesses are already at that number.
