Hey, good morning. I'm Paige Browning. It's Wednesday. This is Seattle now. For a fresh start

to the new year, people clean out garages, closets, and sheds. They help an aging parent or

college-aged kid move into a new space, some stuff gets donated, some items

sold, but for the hard to part with stuff, people in Seattle turn to storage units.

Doing his own winter organizing, Seattle Times business reporter Paul Roberts. He'll come on

and tell us more about the self-storage industry in a minute. But first, let's get you caught up.

A big decision is coming for Gasworks Park today. Seattle's Landmarks Preservation Board

will decide whether to remove ladders, stairs, and other platforms from the former gasification plant.

The city wants them gone after a teen fell from the

structure and died last year. People can sign up for public comment and preservationists are

expected to at today's 3.30 p.m. meeting. We have a link in the show notes for an episode about this

issue. In the state capital today, youth incarceration is up for debate. A proposed

bill would try to prevent young offenders from being sent to detention facilities. Instead,

courts would first have to consider community-based options and judges would get more discretion

in sentencing. There's a hearing in the state house at 1.30 today.

And youth and students are meeting with Mayor Katie Wilson today at the University of Washington.
