I actually think the Phillies themselves understand the importance and the significance of what this means to fill it up here right now.

At a time that the city desperately, desperately needs something to celebrate and cling to.

I really do, and I know that a lot of times people don't like when we make sports too important.

Or, you know, suggest that we're ignoring real issues for sports.

But sometimes when a city is in as bad a shape as a city like Philadelphia is, the importance of something just good and decent and wholesome and apolitical and happy as winning the pennant, which if you're a baseball fan is no small feat.

And I'm a casual sports fan, but I will be honest with you when I say after, I don't know, about a decade spending time kind of partnering with the Phillies working alongside the Phillies, home runs for heart, Richie Asperger in junior.

The years that I've gone down to Philly Spring training and covered this team, I have become a bigger Philly's fan than, you know, my original birthplace and hometown team.
