Childhood friendships are often fickle. When it comes to moving up from middle school to high school,

longtime friendships can fracture due to personality clashes and varied interests.

Sometimes though, friends grow even closer through all of life's changes.

Best friends, Skyler Nice and Sheila Eddie met in the second grade and were inseparable ever since.

When a new friend entered the picture, the trio seemed to develop a special bond and naturally,

they all trusted each other. It would come as a huge shock that Skyler Nice would lose her life

at the hands of one of her closest friends.

a girl with a big heart in a small town.

This case brings us to star city West Virginia. The working-class town of less than 2,000 people

is part of Manongalia County in the northeastern part of the state.

West Virginia is located in a region known as Central Appalachia, where there are a lot of

mountain chains and scenic hiking trails. Star City is roughly 10 miles from the Pennsylvania border.

Its name comes from its biggest claim to fame, Star Glass Company, one of the first glass

factories in the country. Generations of families stay in Star City due to its low housing costs

and how close it is to the larger city of Morgantown. Dave and Mary Nice chose to raise their

only child Skyler there in a community that provided the comfort of everyone knowing everyone.
