Summary

Perhaps the biggest, most persistent myth is that the nutrients we need are animal-based. We're told we should get calcium from cow's milk, omega-3 fatty acids from salmon, and protein from meat.

In fact, the nutrients we need are plant-based. Not animal-based.

Listen to this podcast episode about why it makes absolutely no sense nutritionally, ethically, or ecologically to go through an animal to get to the nutrients that the animal got because the animal (theoretically) ate plants.

plant foods as possible and not worry about counting micrograms of single

1:00.3

nutrients. Eating a whole foods plant-based diet gives you the best shot at consuming and absorbing all the nutrients

So we're taught by the industries, basically,

1:25.8

who have the most to gain from the lessons we learned,

1:28.6

that the nutrients we need most are most readily available

1:32.3

in animal flesh and animal secretions, right?

1:35.8

The milk and meat and eggs of animals.

1:39.6

The meat, dairy, and egg industries have done such a good job at promoting and marketing this

1:44.5

concept that it's rarely questioned by the media or by health professionals

and certainly the public. I'll show you how effective they've been with this little exercise.

Now you can answer these questions out loud or in your head.
