The conspiracy theory community is always on the lookout for new claims that something

done by some government is deceptively evil.

So when someone passed on an idea originally from a science fiction novel, it suddenly

became a thing to believe that NASA is secretly planning to blow up Jupiter in the hopes

that it will turn into a small sun.

Whether this is true or not is one thing, whether it's astrophysically possible is something

else.
