The hunt is on for a big battery breakthrough.

Current electric vehicle battery technology has been, more or less good enough to get dozens

of EVs out the door

and launched into the marketplace.

But as the electric vehicle transition begins in earnest,

as the industry moves from early adopters

to more mass market consumers, Automakers are looking for more energy density, longer range, better durability,

something that's more manufacturable, and naturally something that's lower cost.

In short, they're looking for solid state batteries that deliver on their broad promises.

As they search for that holy grail, three big automakers, namely Stellantis, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz, are turning to a Boston area

startup called Factorial Energy. The company's CEO and founder, entrants into the solid state battery space.

Factorial has raised $240 million from those automakers and others.

And at CES, the company unveiled 100 amp hour

cell tailored for automotive uses.
