Summary

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

Few people read the language of the dead quite like Tui Snider. A bestselling author, speaker, and Texas-based expert on cemetery symbolism and haunted history, Tui uncovers the forgotten stories carved into gravestones and written into the soil of America’s past. Her acclaimed books—Understanding Cemetery Symbols, 6 Feet Under Texas, and Paranormal Texas—shine light on the mysteries that linger in graveyards, ghost towns, and beyond.

In this episode of The Grave Talks, Tui shares her insights into the myths and meanings hidden in cemetery symbols, offers valuable advice for modern-day ghost hunters, and recounts chilling tales from Dallas/Fort Worth’s most haunted sites—including her own eerie encounter with a doppelganger at a haunted hotel.

Through her work, Tui reminds us that every cemetery tells a story, every grave bears a clue, and sometimes, the dead have plenty left to say—if you know how to listen. This is Part Two of our conversation.

One of them that really did catch my eye, though, was in Aurora, Texas, the space alien grave.

0:18.0

That kind of caught my eye.

0:20.3

Oh, really? Yes. You don't have a space alien grave No. I've never seen one. Now I need to go to Aurora, Texas to go there. You do. And it is the funniest thing. So when people hear I'm a writer, a lot of times the first thing they say is like, oh, you're a writer? Oh, you know what you really should write about?

0:38.7

And then they proceed to tell me, I hate to say, but 90% of the time it's something kind of boring. You know, at the time, my aunt thought of salamander or something. I'm like, really, if you're that excited about it, I think you should write it. I don't really, that's not my story to tell. But I moved to Texas in 2009. And, you know, shortly,

0:59.3

I hadn't been here that long. And I was at some sort of, you know, potluck or something or

1:03.6

barbecue with a group of people. Someone I just was chatting with came up and said, oh, I hear

1:08.5

you're a writer. I said, yeah. He goes, well, you ought to

1:11.6

write about that little alien that they buried up the road a piece. I'm like, what, what? I thought

1:17.8

spat out my, you know, whatever I was eating. I say again, he goes, yeah, they buried an alien

up the road in Aurora. I'm like, I do not know what you were talking about, but I'm writing this

down. You probably pull on my leg. This sounded ridiculous, but no. So, you know, I did on my next

1:34.9

day off. My husband and I, we went up to, he went up to Aurora Cemetery, and we saw the cutest

1:41.3

headstone. It's like a rock and it has like a chiseled in it, a little,

1:45.7

like a little cigar-shaped object with three little portholes. And the story is that in

1:53.0

1997, some airship crashed in Aurora and burnt up. And the locals found a little body,

2:00.2

and they said, well, it's not of this world,

2:01.8

but we don't know what it is. We're just going to bury it, and they buried it in the cemetery.

2:06.8

So, me being me, I was like, I just need to get more information.

2:10.3

I'm going to go look at some newspaper archives and see if there's anything about this.

2:14.5

And when I did that, I was a bit shocked to discover that there was a period of

2:20.1

several months in 1897 when people were reporting airships, all sightings. It was like a flurry,
