I'm going to... Hello everybody and welcome back to the sister wives professor. I am Dr. Adam,

Professor of Interpersonal and Family Communication, and I am a follower of the TLC television series,

Sister Wives. And of course, that's what I'm here to talk to you about today, specifically season one, episode six, titled A Fourth Wife to Be. There's a lot that goes on in this episode

that further unearths some themes that come up throughout the

entire series and shows some patterns about the Brown family's socio-communicative behavior

that I find worth discussing. So I'm looking forward to getting into it with you in terms of

what I think, and then hopefully you can tell me what you

think. So let's talk about it. The episode starts with Cody in Robin's rental, cutting up celery.

We know how Cody feels about celery. He loves celery, and he loves Robin. He's smiling at Robin.

She's smiling back. We cut to Mary on the couch,

saying that Robin's entry into the family has, and she pauses. She says, shifted things.

How the family works. How Cody works. And she says, Cody's second. And there's some weight

to that, that she is grappling with how Cody is shifting his time, really.

I think that's the point is that we come back to again and again, and this episode is

splitting time.

In fact, Robin responds by acknowledging that there's been attention about if she should get

equal time as she isn't a wife yet.

Janelle says, for her, there's really no difference between being a wife and being a

fiance.

Christine, however, disagrees enthusiastically.
