Summary

Today's episode I have to explain a few things about the next couple recordings, and then I talk about some of the science behind emotion and logic. My more qualified wife, Lydia, did some research on this question. A man lost his ability to feel emotion when a brain tumor operation went badly. What do you think happened to him? Was he all of a sudden a superhero of logic and rationality? Or was his entire life ruined? Find out! Then I do a long overdue voicemail segment. I play several of your voicemails left after the MM event, and I play a few from more of the Sargon crowd who actually make some arguments worth discussing. Because I am in favor of a battle of ideas when those ideas aren't "Should we sexually harass women." Here are some links! XKCD; Using Only Logic Destroys Decision Making; Emotion is not the Enemy of Reason; Mental Shortcuts, Not Emotions, Guide Irrational Decisions. Leave Thomas a voicemail! (916) 750-4746, remember short and to the point! You're listening to serious inquiries only. Oh, Hello and welcome to serious inquiries only this is episode number 86 and I'm your host Thomas Smith.

0:34.3

Okay, I need to talk to you for a minute about today's episode and the next episode and my show in general very quickly as has become a bit obvious

0:45.9

lately this whole myth information debacle did take over the podcast for a

0:51.3

while and it that's probably because it took over my life for a while

0:55.8

still to some degree has and I've seen some messages to the effect of hey stop it with the

1:02.0

sargon stuff that's a little inside baseball, you know, enough of this.

1:08.1

And actually I do agree, but the one thing and the piece of information maybe you don't have is that I'm

1:15.5

receiving constant trolling and harassment online now so in some sense I get it you

1:21.6

want to hear the show that you've always heard. I do too. I want to get back to doing the show you've always heard. And I'm going to. I absolutely am going to. So I hope you won't be turned off by thinking from now on forever my show is going to be this

1:35.0

discussion of myth-con and social justice. That's not how it's going to be. There are going to be things I'm going to talk about,

1:40.7

but I want to get back to talking about science. I want to get back to talking about philosophy. I want to talk

1:45.4

about other things. I want to talk to more interesting people. But there's a couple

1:49.8

things I was thinking about as regards that inside baseball comment and absolutely no offense to the

1:55.6

commenter I'm not going to reveal who it is I get where you're coming from and I don't mean this

1:59.7

as like a major slap back onto you.

2:03.4

But one problem that so many people online have had,

2:08.5

mainly women, people of color, but everybody,

2:11.4

to some extent. And one thing that became clear and one thing that is a reason that I believe one of the reasons I got a lot of support coming out of this myth information thing was there are people who have been trying to exist online in some capacity be it Twitter be at YouTube be it whatever it is and get constant harassment from these same people who are self-described

2:34.9

shitlords by the way I don't call them shitlords as even a dismissive

2:40.0

insult they they wear that badge proudly. I get tweeted by from them and they have

2:46.2

shit lord in their description. So I don't even that's not even really name

2:50.1

calling like it's just accurate. And as I've said, I mean, I've avoided this YouTube world
