You're listening to serious inquiries only. Oh, Hello and welcome to serious inquiries only this episode 108. I'm your host Thomas Smith and thank you so much for joining me. Today I intend to talk about the recent episode of the Sam Harris podcast featuring Eric Weinstein and Ben Shapiro.

I think there's a lot to talk about as a result of that recording. The number one thing and what I made the title of this show that I find

so depressing and indicative of where a lot of the atheist movement has gone is that in the podcast and I'll play parts of it for you in the

podcast Sam Harris ends up citing with Ben Shapiro on his interpretation of the masterpiece

cake shop lawsuit over, by the way, I don't know if

Sam is aware of this, I'm going to try to make him aware of it if I can and

everyone I encourage you to tweet this at him, but over the Freedom from Religion Foundation.

So we've gotten to the point where the one of the horse people, one of the original like big

atheists new atheists is now citing with a essentially a religious theist

conservative in a lot of ways and Ben Shapiro I know he tries to not be it from

one moment to the next and he definitely was on his better behavior in this podcast recording.

But he believes that America is a Judeo-Christian country and all that BS.

And he gave an answer to the masterpiece cake shop case that is total libertarian nonsense.

And in this case, I know there's oftentimes differences between libertarians and right-wingers, conservatives, this is one thing where they overlap

because they like when they get Christian privilege, so they pick and choose.

I really find this to be kind of a depressing omen so I'm going to get into that I think there are other

implications as well I also want to do my best to steel man some parts of what they were trying to do

because I think there is a way that Sam Harris could go about doing stuff like this, like these conversations with conservatives,

in a way that would be meaningful and worthwhile.

And I want to try to differentiate between that potential endeavor

and what it actually has turned into, which is pretty much just pandering to the right,

benefiting from that audience,
